about

“Details and Drawings” by All Structures Align is perhaps the sleeper hit of the Wrong Speed Records catalogue thus far. As a label it was extremely flattering and very enthusing to know that our fumblings in record-releasing had somehow inspired artists we admire to begin to make music together again. Tim and Adam Ineson’s past in 90s UK underground heroes Nub isn’t the only reason people latched onto “Details and Drawings” so strongly though. To our ears the album exists in direct opposition to the modern idea of every song having to fit right on a playlist, hit the ‘good bit’ within 20 seconds and shout about itself as loudly as possible (whether anyone is listening or not). The songs on ASA’s debut LP unwind and develop at their own pace, delighting the listener and revealing themselves more and more with every play.

You’d think that having spent 20 years out of the music world, Tim and Adam would take a well-deserved rest and their sweet time with any follow up. Think again! Just 6 months later, we’re thrilled to bring you “Distance and Departure”. Album number two. Six songs of six minutes in length. Sharper and edgier than it’s predecessor. Perhaps even more unpredictable as the brothers explore any melodic avenue they fancy, brushing away the genre police with a swat of their hands. For this one they’ve recruited drummer extraordinaire Neil Turpin (Bilge Pump, Objections, Polaris etc) to help make the arrangements flex and pulse that little bit more, each (relatively long) song evolving before your very ears in such a way that you have to drop the needle back again and again to make sure you weren’t mistaken. How did we get here? What path did we take? With each listen the melodies and arrangements embed themselves a little more, the picture sharpens into focus and becomes clearer. This is not an album you’ll listen to once and file away.

As with their debut LP we’ve pressed 100 copies housed again in a beautiful fold-over sleeve by David Hand. The first one sold out in hours so consider this fair warning.
